Beaches in Dominical area of Costa Rica

The beaches in this area are some of the most beautiful you can find and this is one reason that makes this area so popular for vacation rentals and convinces people to live and buy real estate for sale in Uvita and surrounding areas. Secluded bays, beaches with waves, caves, rocky outcrops with tide pools and sand that stretches out for miles. There is a beach for all needs with calm gentle lapping waves ideal swimming for all the family including young children or beaches with powerful waves ideal for surfing. All of them are lined with palms, coconuts and almond trees and rising up from them are the stunning mountains covered in jungle overlooking the Ocean.

Playa Dominical: Popular with surfers and boogie boarders and well known for its powerful waves. This beach is popular and enjoyed by many visiting families because of the long sandy beach, restaurants, bars close to the beach and many people end the day here to watch the spectacle of the surfing and the magnificent sunsets. This beach has lifeguards that are on duty every day from 9am-5pm.

Playa Roca Verde: This is a small coved beach with a small island in the middle, best to visit at low tide and explore the hidden beach at one end and rocks at the other end.

Playa Dominicalito: Beautiful gently curving beach, at the northern end is an idyllic outcrop of rocks, in the middle of beach it is good for learning to surf and calm at the south end with an Island that has a single large tree just off the beach.

Playa Hermosa: The north end of this beautiful beach is a forested point that juts out into the Ocean this end of the beach has bigger waves. This long sand beach sweeps south into gentle waves and the northern side of Whales tail.

Playa Bahia Uvita “Whales Tail” From a view in the mountains at low tide you can see why it has its name. When the tide is at this height this is great walk to the rock reef that goes out into the Ocean for approximately 1 KM. This spit of land separates Playa Hermosa and Playa Bahia, and is good for snorkeling if there has been no rain. You can walk along the sand to the small rocky Island and look back towards the shore and admire the steep jungle mountains and hillsides.

Playa Colonia: Yet another long sandy beach that is located at the southern end of Playa Bahia. Walk at low tide and discover Playa Arco.

Playa Arco: This gem of a beach is not accessible from the coastal highway it is only accessible at low tide from Playa Colonia. Jungle and cliffs surround the beach and it has a waterfall at one end.

Playa Ballena: A Beautiful postcard beach, good for swimming for all the family in the calm water.

Playa Pineula: This beach is a small bay with local fishermen, calm seas great for swimming. You can see the Islas Tres Hermanas just off shore.

Playa Ventanas: This beach is know for its caves from which the beach is named at low tide one can walk through these caves and at higher tides they create a blow hole. Good beach for learner surfers and sea kayaks and swimming.

Playa Tortuga: Located at the mouth of the Rio Terraba, which is the longest river in Costa Rica. From here you can see the local fishermen plying the river. Not recommended for swimming due to strong currents and crocodiles. A wild but beautiful beach.
